Monkey Radio India had some blessings from Svaha Sound system yesterday in the form of their new album which is titled “Roots and Branches“.
Roots and Branches is a collection of fifteen tracks from artists belonging to the Svaha family from around the world. Running for slightly less than an hour, the album provides moments of aural delight in the trademark Svaha dubby tone. Track titles such as ‘Varaha Avatar‘ and ‘Organism Dub‘ might entice one in taking a quick peek into the album before settling down to a session of chilled listen. The year long hard work had manifested into a stunning album with great vibes. This is the first release on the new Svaha Sound Label and some Heavyweight releases scheduled in coming days. So keep locked in!
“Svaha Sound System has evolved from stepping Sound Systems such as Jah Shaka, King Earthquake and Aba Shanti through the late 90’s, mix in with that Drum and Bass, Jungle, Hip-Hop and Spiritual Hindu music and the foundation of Svaha Sound Systems sound is evident. Having this deep education in the dance in addition to exposure to a wide variety of musical influences, a void in conscious music in the UK was highlighted, as only Roots Reggae was catering to this need. This gave birth to Svaha Sound System, combining Ancient Culture from Hinduism and Rastafarianism and pushing forward to a new dawn.”
Roots and Branches is available for purchase on Svaha Bandcamp. A mix tape has been uploaded on Monkey Radio India mixcloud channel for your listening pleasure.
